"According to the Condition of the Mother:  Women, Race, and the Law in Colonial Virginia"  Lecture at Historic St. Luke's Church by Professor Shana Haines.  This lecture will focus on gender, race, and the law to explain how the legal and cultural practices that governed women of European descent in colonial Virginia led to the creation of slave codes that impacted the life, death, and reproduction of enslaved women.
